Our trip to Oklahoma City was marred by car trouble with our Macan 4 EV. On attempting to charge shortly after we got into Kansas, the car would not accept a charge. After trying at two different stations, we called Porsche Roadside Assistance and they sent a tow truck to tow us back to Denver.
On Monday, after discussing the matter with the dealer, we realized that we had nothing to do that week since we had planned to be in Oklahoma City that week. So we quickly repacked and headed out Tuesday morning in the 2020 911 C4S.
We stayed the night in Salina, KS and had a great dinner at a restaurant named YaYa’s. We arrived at the hotel in Oklahoma City in the morning in time to get registered before lunch.
On Thursday we took a tour visiting several sites along old Route 66. Our first stop was Fort Reno and the U.S. Calvary Museum. Fort Reno is an Army fort that goes back to the 1870’s and remained an Army asset until 1949 when it was turned over to the Department of Agriculture. It is now on the National Register of Historic Places.
Our next stop was Lucille’s Historic Highway Gas Station for a photo op and then on to Lucille’s Roadhouse for lunch – with some classic cars parked outside
After lunch we headed to the Stafford Air and Space Museum in Weatherford, OK. The museum is named in honor of General Thomas Stafford, NASA Astronaut and native of Weatherford.
In the evening we went to dinner at restaurant called Crabtown in the Bricktown section of town.
On Friday we participated in the Chickasaw Tour. the tour took us on about a two hour ride through the Oklahoma countryside.
Before reaching the Chickasaw Cultural Center where we had lunch and then toured their museum.
